[updated] Ricky Gervais Asked to Host the Golden Globes Again, his Response

February 1st, 2011 by Graham McMorrow

ricky[update via his blog] So you may have read that we are doing another series of An Idiot Abroad. This is true.  You may also have read that I am hosting next year’s Golden Globes. This is not true. Not yet anyway.

The TV show organisers said they were happy with everything and asked me to not rule out a third gig. However, it is not entirely up to them. The Hollywood Foreign Press and various other committees need to meet and agree. I have no idea if they want me back again. It depends whether they care about fifty delicate egos in the room or the 200 million people watching at home who want a laugh. Also, even if they did want me back, at the moment I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t do it. But I’ll tell you this. If they do invite me back and I accept, I’m going to pull exactly the same shit again or even worse.

Once again, everyone has been warned.

Just when you thought the story was over right?  Well it seems that old saying about any press being good press (murder?) might be what the Globe folks have on their minds by inviting Ricky Gervais back to host [see his performance here].

It’s not too much of a surprise considering he was the only thing that made the show watchable to begin with.  The Hollywood Foreign Press has realized that people won’t just tune in to see pretty celebrities sitting at tables, you know why?  Because they are boring as hell.

Ratings went up again with Gervais’ second gig, thus the invite for round 3.  And he responded: “Organisers asked me to consider a third year.  I don’t think I should.  I don’t know what I could do better.  I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.  You know me.  Two seasons is enough.”

Two seasons of The Office (UK) and Extras was enough, but Ricky…they had Christmas Specials.  Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
