THR is telling us that Penelope Cruz (hi there) is in talks to star alongside Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; no word on what she would be doing in the film. All the trade has is that “she is to be Sparrow’s foil and equal in many ways.” Oh OK!
Johnny Depp will reprise his Oscar-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow, though neither Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley will return. Meaning, Cruz will be a headliner, as it should be. Not much to go on, though it sounds as if Cruz will be the replacement for Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann, who was very annoying if you ask me. You didn’t? Meeting adjourned.
