NOTE: This is a repost from last year. My feelings never change.
Happy Mother’s Day everyone! I would give credit to the movie Mom who rises above the rest to become my favorite on screen Mom of all time. The film is Serial Mom (1994) and the Mom is Beverly Sutphin. Of course she doesn’t stack up with my own mother, but does anyone? Nope.
Serial Mom is an American satirical classic written and directed by John Waters and stars Kathleen Turner . I have seen the film many times now and it still makes me laugh to tears. I recommend this film to everyone, maybe even get your Mom over and make a night of it; a Kodak moment. Throughout the film Beverly Sutphin takes it upon herself to punish those who get in her way or children’s way, or simply just piss her off. Here is a list of the victims: (spoilers)
- Her sons math teacher who criticizes Beverly’s parenting; she runs him down in her car.
- Her daughters crush who stands her up for another girl; stabbed from behind with a fire poker.
- An obnoxious PTA member who calls Bev’s husband in on a Saturday morning; stabbed with a pair of scissors. And her husband; Beverly pushed an air conditioner on him.
- One of the customers at her sons video store who doesn’t rewind and calls him a “son of a psycho”; beaten with a leg of lamb.
- Her son’s porn-obsessed best friend; lit on fire with an aerosol can and a lighter.
- One of the jurors who, following the trial, is beaten to death by Beverly with a payphone for wearing white shoes after Labor Day.

The last death is hilarious and ridiculous. Almost makes me want to watch this one.
