Prometheus sure looks and feels like an Alien film, that may be because it was originally intended as a direct prequel to the 1979 science fiction horror film; however, the events of the film will not precede any of the previously established characters or story lines from the Alien franchise we are told.
Watch the first trailer for Prometheus from director Ridley Scott and watch the Alien trailer (both below), I can see why people might think they are connected somehow. All we get is moody atmosphere, no plot or dialogue, so it’s a teaser really. This is a return to the sci-fi/horror for Scott; the movie stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba and is set to be released on June 8th 2012.
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
