Duncan Jones to Direct Ian Fleming Biopic
There is a lot of James Bond happening this year to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. We showed you the awesome Blu-ray collection, not to mention Skyfall comes out this fall. Now the man behind it all is getting the star treatment too. It was announced that Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) has signed on to direct an “action-packed” story of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Jones said:
“Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes. He witnesses true heroism first-hand. And he saw the evil men could do. Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is; where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?”
The film will be based on Andrew Lycett’s biography Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, and production is slated to begin later this year. It’s worth noting that this is the only film to have the full support of the Ian Fleming Estate.
This is pretty easy to assess; it’s going to be an action packed spy story about the creator of James Bond, a mysterious legend in his own right. On top of that, it’s directed by one of today’s biggest up and coming talents Duncan Jones. Moon was an absolute delight in every way, one of the best sci-fi movies of the last decade and Source Code, with its questionable casting choices still entertained. The material here has the making of something awesome.
