I didn’t expect a send up of an average ’80s TV show to exceed my expectation, but that’s what 21 Jump Street did.  I had a great time watching this movie which I would say is one of the better comedies to come along in quite some time.  Everyone surprised me and the material was handled with respectful satire, meaning the premise of the TV show remained intact no matter how awful it is.

Of all the action orientated TV show to movies that have come out over the years such as Starsky and Hutch, Charlie’s Angels , The A-Team, and Mission Impossible – 21 Jump Street manages to breathe new life and hope into the game and sets a standard for more to come (and they will come).

The movies charm comes from the self-aware script by Jonah Hill; they poke fun at everything from Hollywood’s recycling of the past to the buddy-cop movies we all know and love.  Watch for one of the best scenes for the movie, a car chase that will now taint all future car chases.

The new 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) is smart to embrace everything we love and should hate about TV shows and movies.  Also, that cameo you heard was in the movie, it’s in the movie and it’s fantastic.
