Who knew a 2D animated film could make such an impact!?  Well anyone who has been following the film would know that with such a force behind it (the folks behind Pirates of the Caribbean) and good reviews, it was really a no surprise this weekend.  Score for the anti-3D crowd with Rango winning the weekend.

How did the other films make out?  Check out the report:

1 – Rango $38M
2 – The Adjustment Bureau $20.9M
3 – Beastly $10.1M
4 – Hall Pass    $9M ($27M)
5 – Gnomeo & Juliet $6.9M ($83.7M)

The Adjustment Bureau did well in second place, a surprise for some considering it was pulled from the release schedule last July.  Universal acquired The Adjustment Bureau for $62M.  It could have decent word of mouth to make it a winner.

Beastly is making people at CBS happy with a $10M weekend, just $7M shy of its overall budget.

Take Me Home Tonight tanked (#11) with a $3.5M weekend, it’s said the budget was around $30M with advertising.  Ouch, so Topher Grace did the 70’s and failed the 80’s, you know what’s next people.
