James Cameron’s Avatar will finally see a re-release on August 27th 2010 with more than eight minutes of never before seen footage exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D reports /Film.
I really wouldn’t be posting this news if I didn’t care – so here’s my two cents. Avatar was really a great movie-going experience. I don’t plan on making it a home viewing pleasure because I think going in with a lesser babka is just wrong. What I am saying is, to see Avatar in its true form – you have to see it in theaters. I can’t say that about many movies, but trust me, if you missed it the first time around, find it now. Now I know what you’re thinking. “But Mr. Mayor sir, this is such a money grab it’s not even funny”. I would tend to agree with you based on what Star Wars has done a few times now, but I think Avatar has done well enough that now – they really do just want to make sure we all saw this spectacle.
The Oscar winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. It’s a fun movie, a great time and it doesn’t have Celine Dion on the soundtrack. Win.
