ACTION NO. 1, A Movie About The Theft Of Nicolas Cage’s Superman Comic Is Being Made
So the story goes that in 2000, Nicolas Cage’s copy of Action Comics No. 1, featuring the first appearance of Superman, was stolen. The comic was said to be in mint-condition issue and worth upwards of $1.5M (it sold for a record $2.1 million at auction in November). In 2011 the comic was found in an abandoned storage locker. Already you have an interesting story, and say what you will about Nic Cage (personally I dig the guy), losing that comic had to hurt and you feel for the guy.
Present day now, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!, Night at the Museum) have written a film called Action No. 1 that takes the story and will inevitability put a comedic spin on it; Lionsgate has picked up the script and may turn it into a film.
“The story revolves around a group of nerds who attempt to steal Cage’s comic” says THR. They also point out there is no cast or director attached to it yet. More on the theft and the insurance issues that may stop Cage from getting back his comic can be found here. More on that ridiculous Superman costume he is wearing here.
