It’s been some time since I first watched the trailer for Precious. I enjoyed it a lot, but couldn’t really put it to words for the site. Not like New Moon, in that case I just don’t want to talk about it because it looks rubbish. Anyways, here is the latest poster (reminded me of the Taken poster) and original trailer (after jump) for the movie that has been gaining ground in limited release (making double the per-theater gross of 2012 last week in fewer than 200 theaters). The cast is also in talks for awards from all over the house; Mariah Carey, Mo’Nique and star Gabourey Sidibe are all taking in the praise these days.
Newcomer Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe plays Claireece Precious Jones who endures unimaginable hardships in her young life. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, fat, unloved and generally unnoticed. “Sometimes I wish I was not alive,” Precious says. “But I don’t know how to die. Ain’ no plug to pull out. ‘N no matter how bad I feel my heart don’t stop beating and my eyes open in the morning.” An intense story of adversity and the mechanisms to cope with it.
