A Look At The New Back To The Future Video Game

In June, it was announced that Telltale Games was developing a series of new episodic video games based off the Jurassic Park and Back to the Future movie franchises, in a deal with NBC Universal. We have a couple new updates, including our first look at concept art for the Back to the Future game.

I will be the first one to defend BTTF in everything it does, but I have no faith in this whatsoever. It’s coming out this winter and we have no screen shots or real news about it? Me thinks it’s going to be cheaply produced and just using voices and props from a film isn’t enough to satisfy any serious gamer or movie lover. I have a Wii and PS3 and I can’t imagine either systems showing me a well made Back to the Future game, and I hate myself for thinking it.

I can see however this being a small downloadable game, Telltale Games is kind of known for that (Monkey’s Island and Sam & Max games. They have produced games based on Wallace & Gromit, Homestar Runner and Tales of Monkey Island.)

What we know so far:

The game will include characters Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
Christopher Lloyd will also provide his voice for the games.
Back to the Future series screenwriter Bob Gale is working with the game developers on the story
They are planning five “episodes”.
It will be set in the fictional California setting of Hill Valley, and will explore 1985 and additional time periods.

International Movie Trailer: Buried

The first teaser trailer for Buried really captured my interest, it looks likes it going a great little suspense tale. I am fearful that they only thought as far as the climax and then we are going to get a bullshit ending (any thriller in the last decade or so). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical and audience acclaim, sparking a multi-studio bidding war. The story follows a private contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and buried alive. He has 90 minutes of air left until he dies, and has access to only a phone and a lighter.

The entire movie takes place in the coffin, with Ryan Reynolds providing the only on screen performance. Buried will be released in select theaters on September 24th 2010 and will expand nationwide on October 8th 2010.

Arcade Fire’s Interactive Short Film The Wilderness Downtown

Arcade Fire is one of the best bands in the world, if you don’t know this; there are three albums I can recommend for further proof. The latest being The Suburbs, which I haven’t been able to stop listening to for weeks.

On August 30, 2010, an interactive video was released for “We Used to Wait” at http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com, designed in conjunction with Google Chrome, which makes use of Google Maps and Google Street View. The experience begins with the viewer entering in their childhood address and goes on to incorporate drawing a picture and writing a letter. It’s all pretty crazy and something I have never seen before. Close other windows and tabs and have fun, you can even share the short film you created with friends.

John Cusack As Edgar Allan Poe In The Raven

A true adaptation.

This news is a few days old, but I wanted to make sure that John Cusack wasn’t just tweeting drunk. Yes it’s true, via Twitter, John Cusack let the world know that he will play Edgar Allan Poe in a film by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta).

Cusack’s tweet said: “officiali- will play edgar allan poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss.”

Now don’t worry, this is a different version from what Sylvester Stallone has been talking about for years. Here is what we know so far about this new version: The Raven is a fictionalized account of the final five “mysterious” days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life. Apparently the famous writer joins the hunt for a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his stories. McTeigue describes it “like the poem, The Raven, itself, crossed with Se7en.”

The latest issue of The City Strip is up, and it’s based on a true story believe it or not. We have all been there I’m sure – friends or family, just bringing out the worst of you with their lack of fundamental movie know how. I suppose there are worse things in the world…anyone?

Enjoy another fun filled week in the city. Word on the street is that Justice is working on another article [check out her last one], so I guess this means I too will have to roll up the sleeves, crack the knuckles and get some reel work done!

Since it’s so cold where I am today, it reminded me that snow is coming… and then Christmas. So here’s “A Pilkington Christmas” for no real reason.

Trailer: The Freebie

The Freebie was acclaimed at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and we now have a trailer to show off. The film was written, directed and stars Katie Aselton as one half of a young couple in Los Angeles who try to spice up their marriage by allowing each other a one-night “freebie.” I instantly thought of the running story from season 4 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but this film looks to take it a lot more seriously.
