The CoF Council Picks: Top 3 Movie Posters

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

city of films

Hello Citizens!  We here in the City of Films love movie posters.  We don’t post a lot of news about posters because frankly nowadays they are boring and half-assed.  For any movie aficionado you know how great a movie poster can be; it’s art and that’s why we hang them in our homes.  You size it up, have it flattened, frame it and place her in just the right spot on the wall.  Move aside family portrait, The Goonies are going up!

The chosen posters below are not necessary from our homes or movies we saw or liked, but 3 of our favourite posters.  If you have a poster wall of your own you would like to show us, head over to our Facebook page and post it – we enjoy that.  BONUS: Check out our Top 3 DVD’s (more…)

The CoF Council Picks: Top 3 DVD’s

city of films

JOIN US ON FACEBOOK TO SHOW US YOUR FAVOURITE DVD!

The City of Films Council [learn of us here] recently got the idea to share some of their fondest entries of our DVD collections.  At first we were just throwing out titles and showing off, and then we got serious; pick your top 3.  So the homework was assigned, and we all had a week to come up with 3 DVD’s that we own that we consider to be our favourite.

It’s not the movie that necessarily guided our choices, but more so that DVD itself.  A great DVD will do that, even with a bad movie behind it.  You can find some really great bonus material out there; packaging and art are also really great add-ons.  Take a look at your own collection, I bet you have something that stands out.  Here are ours: Council Picks: Top 3 DVD’s.

The City V. The Drive-In (Part 2)

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

In case you missed part 1, click here. If not, read on!

While the sky opened up and the Sun began to set I went on a search for a movie attendant. Most vehicles present had an external car antenna, mine is internal. Which is nice for most things, not so much for the Drive-In. I sense trouble a brewin’. I walked by cars loaded with colorful characters of all walks of life. On a side note, who brings their giant monster dogs to a movie? The answer, approximately 60% of those in pickup trucks, and 90% of the fellas in cut off t-shirts with handlebar mustaches. (more…)

The City V. The Drive-In (Part 1)

Monday, August 9th, 2010

So originally this article was going to be a post about my night out at the archaic gathering known as the ‘Drive-In’. I wondered, what caused the Drive-In to disappear from North American prevalence? It seemed like a charming idea, at a good price ($8 for a double feature), and a different way to see a movie. The last time I had been to a Drive-In was when I was 9 years old, to the Flintstones movie. While I remember the movie being pretty boring, I have no memory of my experience with the theater itself. So how did the Drive-In hold up to my 2010 standards? Let’s take a look at the night in question and come to a verdict. (more…)

WIN some FAIL some

Cutting right to the chase here to avoid taking up the spotlight, a few weeks back the District Attorney made a post [here] about the new Prince of Persia movie. This got me wondering; in the history of movies what were some of the worse adaptations around? Now, I know this sounds like an oxymoron because to be honest there are really (in the eyes of fan boys) no amazing adaptations out there. So let’s take a look at some WINS and FAILS.  Leave your own below and I will be sure to comment!

Batman 3: Who’s the Next Villain?

Batman 3

Now that Inception is behind him, Christopher Nolan can now focus on what might be his most difficult film to date; his final act in the Batman Trilogy. The fan expectations I fear will never be met and commercially, it will be surprising if lightning can be captured once again. No story details have been released whatsoever, so obviously the rumor mill is going mad with ideas and suggestions.

Where can he take the next film as a director? How will it all end? We may not know the answers, but we can certainly speculate with everyone. Today we will do just that with a co-op venture from The Mayor and The District Attorney. We have each selected our choices for villains and the actors we feel would most suit the role. Please leave your own feedback in the comments and we can all debate and speculate…it’s all we have. See our picks.

Why Everyone Should See Inception

inception

Dreams feel real while we’re in them.
It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

It’s said that Christopher Nolan spent ten years writing Inception.  To say the expectations for the film are high is a severe understatement.  His last film The Dark Knight went on to become one of the most successful movies of all time and garner the highest praise for any comic book adaptation ever.  Nolan succeeded in resuscitating Batman for our generation, and now I must declare he is doing the same with our movies.  Creating something this original and on such an epic scale should be praised and sought after.  No matter how high your personal expectations for Inception may be, the film deserves your attention for many reasons, everyone should see Inception.
